Welcome from the reception team. Please read the page to find information about our learning.

Topics

In Reception we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which is divided into 7 areas of learning.

All 7 areas of development are inter-connected. We learn through a range of teacher directed and child-initiated activities which take place both inside and outside our classroom. We focus on creating positive relationships where children feel supported and nurtured and can become confident, independent learners.

Three of these areas are crucial for starting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. These three prime areas are: Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. They are the foundations for all our learning.

Our topics are based on different books each week suited around a theme. Have a look at our exciting topics throughout the year below!

Things to Remember

  • P.E is every Friday afternoon – please make sure your child has a full P.E kit in school consisting of: blue t-shirt, black shorts/ tracksuit bottoms, black pumps. Please check your child’s feet size regularly and label everything.

  • School uniform – please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform: school jumper/ cardigan, white polo t-shirt/ shirt, grey or black trousers, grey or black skirt, black/grey/white socks and tights and black shoes. Blue summer dresses are seasonal only.

  • Please make sure your child brings a coat to school every day. We advise that your child brings in hat, scarf and gloves as we do lots of learning outside! If you would like to, bring in a pair of wellies in a labelled bag for outdoor learning.

  • If your child would like to bring a water bottle in, please make sure it has their name on.

Reading in Reception

  • Monday: Ants.

  • Tuesday: Bees.

  • Wednesday: Butterflies.

  • Please make sure you are reading at least three times a week with your child. Also please sign the diary every time you read, and your child will be entered into a draw to take home the class teddy bear every Friday!
