Culture Day 2018 in FS2!

What a fantastic day we had celebrating all the amazing cultures we have in Reception with our parents. The children have experienced a variety of activities. We learnt all about Italy and Romania and many more cultures. We looked at the special clothes and talked about how they went to school.

We also learnt all about Poland! We were shown a map of Poland and were told that miners wore a special uniform. We were also told that the children were left on their own to go to school.

Next, we learnt about Kurdistan! One of our classmates dressed in traditional Kurdish clothes that he would wear for special occasions like a wedding. We learnt some words in Kurdish and learnt a Kurdish dance with our friends!

Finally, we tasted lots of different foods from

all around the world. It was delicious! We also

tasted Stoke-on-Trent’s traditional oatcakes.

We would like to say a big thank you to all the

parents who attended Culture Day! It was very

successful and the children thoroughly

enjoyed it!

Welcome to the FS2 Jurassic Classroom!

This Autumn Term, our topic is Dinosaurs! We will be learning about the history of dinosaurs, where they came from, what they ate, what they looked like and make a Dinosaur mountain for a home for the Dinosaurs. Last week we came into school to find a Dinosaur had come into Reception! It left giant foot prints and broke our chairs and tables! Have a look at the CCTV footage which captured the Dinosaur!

Dinosaur Topic Afternoon

This afternoon we had our topic afternoon making lots of Dinosaur Art and Crafts! We worked with our teachers, mums, dads, grandmas and granddads to make clay dinosaurs, hand print dinosaurs, masks and lots more! We listened to dinosaur music and had a story before home time. We can’t wait for the Christmas Craft afternoon next half term!

From the teachers in FS2, we would like to say big thank you to everyone who was able to attend the Dinosaur Topic afternoon with the children. It was a great success and the children really enjoyed it!

Stockley Farm

We had a fantastic time at Stockley Farm. The children enjoyed lots of activities. They made a Rudolf calendar by painting their hands, made bags of magic reindeer hay, and dressed up to take part in the Nativity story. They also enjoyed a very bumpy tractor ride! We mustn’t forget the animals that we saw, including feeding the baby goats. To end a brilliant day the children saw the big man himself – SANTA and received a lovely present.

Dear Parents/ Carers of FS2,

ST Pauls

Today we visited St Pauls Church in Burslem as part of our Discovery RE topic, as we are currently learning about The Christmas Story and Advent.

In church we helped to tell the story of Advent using little wooden props which built up a Nativity scene. We then sang Twinkle Twinkle to resemble the shining star that led the Shepherds and Wise Men to baby Jesus.

After we looked around the church and learnt about the different displays, artefacts and what key symbols are in our local church.

We loved listening to stories from the bible by Reverend Darren and finished off with the Lord’s prayer. We will be visiting the church again after the Christmas holidays!

The Royal Wedding

Today we visited St Pauls Church in Burslem as part of our Discovery RE topic, as we are currently learning about different celebrations. In church, we signed a wedding register, we took part in a friendship ceremony and listened to traditional wedding music. After we looked around the church and learnt about the different displays, artefacts and what key symbols are in our local church.

Take-a-Hint Theatre Company came into school to perform ‘Learning Through Fairytales’. The children form Squirrel Lodge, Nursery and Reception watched three different fairytales, ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Little Red Riding Hood and The Three billy Goats Gruff. The children laughed, danced and sang with the performers – we had a great time.

The children in Reception and Year 2 performed the Christmas Nativity, ‘Baubles’. The story was about a caretaker at a school that made baubles to decorate the Christmas tree. Each bauble represented the characters or different parts the Christmas story. The children were amazing in the play and their singing was fantastic.
